How mobile live scan works
- Book your visit online or by phone. Tell us how many people need fingerprinting and what each submission is for.
- Send us your agency's instructions if you have them: the card type, ORI number, reason for fingerprinting, or any vendor code. We confirm everything before we arrive.
- We come to you with a portable live scan device.
- We capture and check each person's prints on screen, so poor-quality prints are fixed on the spot, not rejected weeks later.
- We submit or print. FBI background checks go out electronically. FD-258 cards are printed for you to mail. ATF files are prepared for upload.
Check your program's rules first. Some state employment and licensing programs require fingerprinting through a specific state-approved vendor or service code. Send us the instructions before you book, and we'll tell you whether we can handle it or where you need to go.
Things to know about FBI background checks
- Only you can request your own record. Under U.S. Department of Justice Order 556-73, an Identity History Summary may only be requested by the person it belongs to. Each person in a group requests their own.
- Same-day channeler service is for U.S. citizens and green card holders. Others apply directly to the FBI, and we can walk you through it.
- A few reports take longer if the FBI flags them for manual review.
- Freshness matters. Most consulates want a report issued within the last 3–6 months.
